7th API Think-Tank - Software Defined Networking

When: June 2012

Where: SITI, Universidade Lusófona - Edifício U, room U.0.8, Campo Grande 376 1749-024 Lisboa

Organizers: Waldir Moreira, Jonnahtan Saltarin (SITI/University Lusófona)

Tema/Topic: Software Defined Networking (SDN) - Facilitando a Inovação/Facilitating Innovation

Summary:  The 7th API Think-Tank meeting is dedicated to the theme "Software Defined Networking: Facilitating Innovation". SDN has evolved in way to facilitate innovation since it allows new ideas for networking solutions to be tested in different scales in real world deployments. It allows networking researchers to easily overcome the closed/proprietary drawbacks found when attempting to use core switches/routers and to suitably assess the performance of such new ideas without compromising the functioning of the networks targeted for innovation. Thus, we invite you to submit teaser topics and/or demos and to engage in fruitful discussions about this theme with researchers from academia, industry, and government agencies.

6th API Think-Tank - Cooperative Sensing

When: 26.01.2012

Where: Cisco Systems Portugal,Sala Camões. Lagoas Park Edifício 12, 3º andar 2740-269 Porto Salvo 38°42'47.19" N 9°18'36.65" W

Local Organizers: Rute Sofia (SITI/University Lusófona) and Graça Carvalho (CISCO)

Summary:  The 6th API Think-Tank is dedicated to the theme Cooperative Sensing as a Valuable Social Media.    Sensing aspects from our environment and collecting related data through technology surrounding us as invidual citizens is a recent trend which has seen a boost on the last years. Initiatives related to cooperative sensing start to be common,  be it from entities associated with specific fields (e.g. transportation, health, education, governmental projects, disaster environments), from the individual user (e.g. social networks and social networking), or from more research oriented projects (e.g. emotional mapping). More than common, such initiatives are either based on grassroots initiatives coming from the Internet end-user, or from entities which see a benefit in globally providing open data repositories.

4th Think-Tank Meeting - Internet of Connected Objects

The API Steering Committee invites you to submit position papers related to the theme: Internet of Connected Objects

API 4th Think-Tank Meeting (hosted by University of Coimbra)

When: July 8th 2011, 9.30h-18h

Where: Sala dos Conselhos, Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade de Coimbra, Polo II, Pinhal de Marrocos, 3030 Coimbra

ABSTRACT/CALL FOR TEASER TOPICS

Sensors and embedded devices are being deployed around the world and used in many useful and important applications such as environment monitoring, industrial process, health and home automation. The integration of these small devices in the Internet will revolutionize several concepts and it will require new paradigms. The Internet of Things and the Web of Things are two primary examples of the directions assumed in the current and possibly future networks. The main idea of these visions is to link physical objects to the Internet and to integrate them with web and enterprise applications.

However, despite the considerable research effort in the past decade, and the maturity of some of its base technologies, many challenges persist like reliability and mobility. Moreover as the field of wireless sensor networks, actuators and embedded devices matures, new design concepts, experimental and theoretical findings, and applications have continued to emerge at a rapid pace.

The 4th API Think-Tank invites you to submit POSITION PAPERS (teaser topics) and DEMOS to our event, focused on the theme Internet of Connected Objects. The goal of this meeting is to present and discuss results in the field, both at national and international levels, and to provide a framework for research collaboration through focused discussions that will designate future research efforts and directions.

We also highlight that all of the teaser topics accepted in API 2011 will be invited to be submitted to the 2nd annual edition of API Review, the first Portuguese magazine on Informatics Sciences and Technologies.

Topics of interest for the teasers include but are not limited to:

•          Addressing and naming (including IP issues);
