University Lusófona/Universidade Lusófona

Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias (ULHT) is the largest private university in Lisbon. The name comes from the word Lusofonia, which names all the Portuguese speaking countries and their common linguistic and cultural background. It is a university where cultures and nationalities come together. The University assumes itself as the leading institution responsible for the development of these physical and cultural spacesof the Portuguese-speaking world of 250 million inhabitants believes that the best way one can become a better individual is through education.

ULHT is located on the eastern side of the Campo Grande park, at a walking distance from the Campo Grande metro station (yellow and green line).

SITILabs - R&D Unit of Informatics Systems and Technologies

SITILabs has been established in 2010. It is an R&D unit dedicated to both applied research (70%) as well as advanced research (30%) and is focused on three main R&D tracks:

SITILabs holds a multidisciplinary team of 20 associated researchers, corresponding in 2012 to a total of in a total of 17 Full-Time Equivalent Researchers. Our offices are located in Building U, first floor, of University Lusófona.

How to Reach Us:

By aeroplane: Lisboa International airport (Airport Mário de Sá Carneiro) is only 7km from the city centre and around 5km from Campo Grande. From the airport, you can opt by:
Aero-shuttle (from 7.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m.; runs every 20 min.); Drop on Campo Grande and you will see information about Universidade Lusófona - 3m walking.
Regular bus (Autocarro, check Carris for possibilities and schedules). Options to get off are Campo Grande and Campo Grande/Av. Brasil.
Taxi. Taxis stop at the airport main lobbies.
By train: To buy tickets and to check schedules, go to CP site. The three main train stations in Lisbon are Santa Apolónia (downtown and near river Tagus); Oriente (in the region of Expo/Parque das Nações) and Entrecampos. The closest train stations are Entrecampos and Oriente. Subway is then available for any of these stations; subway station to get off is "Campo Grande".

By car: Speed limits are 120 Km/h on motorways, 90 Km/h on other roads and 50 km/h in towns. Besides driving license, a insurance and the green card are obligatory. Lisboa is reachable by several highways in Portugal, check Brisa.

Bikes. Biking is feasible in Lisboa, in particular around ULHT. However, be aware that Lisboa has just 34km of bike lanes. Most of the time, you are on your own. For details on the Lisboa bike lanes, check Bikely or Ciclovia (in Portuguese).

Food and Drinking

Within Lusófona and the university campus around you have 5 bars, two of them which operate as Cafteria/Kantine (Cantina). Average meal price is around 4.5 Euros.

Things to do on Your Arrival!

Declaration of entry (non-EU students). Within 3 working days you must go to SEF and declare your entry. In order to do so, contact them by phone (+351 808962690) between 08:00-20:00. SEF will provide coordinates on where to go, as well as book an appointment and tell you which documents you need to carry. Declaration of entry form is available online.
Get registered in the university that hosts your doctoral programme (if applicable).
Get an official residence in Portugal.
Get a fiscal identification number (known as NIF in Portugal). You need a letter from SITILabs/ULHT stating that you are hosted by us. In addition, you need a proof of residence, e.g., housing rental agreement as well as a form of identification (passport). To get the NIF, you can go to "Loja do Cidadão", located in raça dos Restauradores 18/22 Cinema Eden(phone 707241107). The Loja is accessible by subway, drop off at Restauradores.
If applicable, sign your scholarship agreement with ULHT.
Register in SEF. For this you need your passport, 1 photo, letter from UITC acknowledging your elegibility, NIF, signed (scholarship) agreement, health insurance. There are some costs.
Apply for the social security number. YOu can also do this in Loja do Cidadao, stand of the Social Security.

Students from European Union State members or EEA countries are covered by European Health Insurance Card or Form E 111 or E 128 or the European Card of Health Security to get medical assistance at public health institutions and to benefit from the National Social Security System as any Portuguese citizen. In order to obtain this scheme, students should contact their own Social Security Office, to have respective form issued, before arriving in Portugal.

Students coming from outside the EU or EAA should make sure before arrival that they are property insured and have health insurance in your own country that cover the basic Portuguese requirement.
