1. Highlight:  SITI Evolves to SITILabs

Following the original SITI planning from 2010, SITI became SITILabs in October 2012, thus acquiring legal personality.

SITILabs - R&D  in Informatics Systems and Technologies - is a private, non-profit association of COFAC c.r.l which has as main goal to  develop and to disseminate scientific research in the field of Informatics Sciences, in particular in regards to Informatics Systems and Technologies.

SITILabs is focused on pursuing activities with an adequate balance between industry and academia both from a national and international scope, including the development of joint-ventures, and support for the development of spin-offs.

In this Number:

1. Highlight: SITI becomes SITILabs

2. SITILabs in ULP in 2013

3. ULOOP Delivers User-centric Wireless Technology

2. SITILabs in ULP in 2013

SITILabs has recently started a new delegation in Universidade Lusófona do Porto, with the motivation to assist ULP MSc students to develop their research within the international research context provided by SITILabs. The new delegation is expected to be focused, in 2013, in information systems and also in machine-to-machine communication systems and shall follow the SITILabs policy of pursuing activities with an adequate balance between industry and academia.

Within the academic context SITILabs shall start by assisting ULP MSc students in the pursuit of their masters within the context of an international environment,

The ULP SITILabs delegation is locally coordinated by Waldir Moreira Junior. Further information concerning this delegation and its positioning can be obtained by contacting the SITILabs Scientific Direction.

3. ULOOP Delivers User-centric Wireless Technology

The ULOOP project (2010-2013) has successfully concluded its second year, having developed a set of technological demonstrations that leverage user-centric networks in terms of better user-experience (zero configuration and higher quality of networking services). Amongst the set of developed technology we highlight the technology that show-cases the trust management framework of ULOOP as well as a new mobility tracking software, the MTracker. The technology developed by ULOOP is open-source and available for OpenWRT access points as well as for Android devices (user-equipment part).

During its third year, ULOOP shall provide, among other results, two large-scale demos of the technology being developed, one to be hosted by FON in Madrid, and the other by ZON in Lisboa; a Summer School (July 1st to 5th 2013); an open-source software suite.

ULOOP - User-centric Wireless Local Loop is an EU FP7 project (2010-2013) which introduces a new perspective concerning user-centric networking, by addressing three main technological aspects to boost a cooperative behavior in wireless networks: trust management and cooperation incentives; resource management; better coordination of mobility anchor points via mobilitty estimation and dynamic coordination (mobility aspects).

The ULOOP project is coordinated by Alcatel-Lucent BellLabs France together with SITILabs, University Lusófona (Scientific coordinator) and is based on a consortium of 11 partner which in addition to the coordination team include: Huawei Technologies Duesseldorf GmbH; ZON Cabo TV; Caixa Mágica Software, Lda; FON Wireless Ltd; Technische Universitaet Berlin; University of Kent; Level7; University of Genéve; University of Urbino.
