1. Highlight - 2012 API Roadmap

The 6th API Think-Tank, jointly organized by SITILabs/University Lusófona and Cisco Systems, took place on January 26th in Cisco Systems Portugal, Lagoas Park in Oeiras. Focused on "cooperative sensing", the event counted with 40 registered participants, and 30 attendants. In the morning the event counted with a keynote speech  about the EU IST FP7 project m:Ciudad, by Maribel Narganes, followed by an excellent multidisciplinary panel  concerning the value created by sensing tools involving multiple users, panel which counted with the perspectives of Graça Carvalho and Peter Gits (CISCO); Manuel José Damásio (CICANT, University Lusófona); Rui José (University of Minho); Telma Mota (PT Inovação); Alfredo Matos (Caixa Mágica Software); André Zúquete (University of Aveiro). In the afternoon the 6th API Think-tank held a visit to the Cisco Portugal demo and tele-presence premises, followed by the regular Teaser and demo sessions.

The 6th event closed the 2011 API cycle, and the programme for 2012 will be announced soon.

2. SITILabs Welcomes New Researcher!

 

SITILabs has a new member since mid-January. His name is Jonnahtan Saltarín, has a degree in Electrical Engineering and a Masters in Computer Engineering and Communication Networks. In SITILabs, Jonnahtan is a Researcher involved in the project  MITS  - Modular Management for Intelligent Transportation Systems,  a collaboration between SITILabs and EFACEC.

 

Jonnahtan studied in Italy, Venezuela, and Switzerland, where he developed several projects and gained experience in his areas of interest. He has published a paper on the theme "P2P Video Streaming with Inter-Session Network Coding.”

3. ANICT 2012 Symposium

 

Established in 2010, the National Association of Researchers in Science and Technology (ANICT) aims to represent the professional interests of Scientific Researchers (PhDs) working in Portugal, namely: 1. Support and represent the scientific researchers working in Portugal. 2. Acting as a partner in the dialogue between Researchers and the Government as well as other institutions involved in policymaking of Science in Portugal. 3. Promoting excellence in academic research, autonomy and freedom in all areas of knowledge. 4. Contribute to the dissemination of scientific knowledge to the general public. As part of ANICT everybody will be able to participate in activities that assist the development of science in Portugal. Participate in ANICT in 2012 has an annual cost of 10 Euros, an amount that is used to support the development of regular activities of ANICT, and in particular the support of the Annual Symposium, which in 2012 will be held on June 22 in University of Coimbra. Come join us in developing a program of scientific excellence in Portugal.

 

4.  SITILabs  in 3 Proposals for the EU FP7 call 8

 

SITILabs has participated in the development of 3 proposals for the EU FP7 call 8 which has cosed in January 2012, under different sub-objectives. Out of the different proposals we highlight the submission of a proposal coordinated by SITILabs, University Lusófona, counting with a total of 21  European partners.
