1. HIGHLIGHT - The Rise of User-centric Wireless NetworksThe EU IST FP7 ULOOP (User-centric Wireless Local Loop) Project held its first industrial workshop in Berlin on 27.09.2011, having been hosted by partners Huawei Research and Alcatel-Lucent BellLabs France. The ULOOP industrial workshop is an event focused on igniting discussion concerning the impact of user-centric wireless networks both from a regulation and from a socio-economic perspective. The workshop programme covered several section presenting results achieved during the first year of ULOOP; presentations from related entities such as operators; municipalities; related projects, and a discussion panel focused on the socio-economic aspects of user-centric wireless networks. Its audience amounted to a total of 44 representatives of different entities, including operators, municipalities, researchers, vendors, and the EU Commission. The ULOOP project is focused on the development of open-source software tailored at allowing a robust and innovative expansion of wireless network architectures, where the user can be part of the Internet value-chain, by providing expanded coverage and shared access. |

2. WordCamp Lisboa 2011 Takes Place in ULHT
The 2011 WordCamp Lisboa took place on September 24th 2011 in Auditório Agostinho da Silva, University Lusófona, being the organization supported by COPELABS/ULHT. WordCamp is an event intended to mobilize WordCamp fans and potential "word-pressers". WordCamp is targetted at regular wordpress users, being also targetted to professionals that are willing to deepen know-how, or simply to new users seeking to understand this Web tool. Wordpress is characterized by the positive sinergies provided between its community and industry, which have as grounds open-source software values.Follow Wordcamp Lisboa on Facebook, or on Twitter, and also WordPress Portugal on Twitter. |

3. ArdWorks Low-Cost Augmented Reality
ArdWorks organized its second workshop concerning augmented reality interfacing based on Arduino and Alikes on September 10th 2011, at COWORK Lisboa. Throughout a whole day several representants from academia and industry got together to give insight into the development of different perspectives concerning low-cost augmented reality solutions and projects. The results of the ArdWorks and videos can be obtained in the ArdWorks site. ArdWorks is an initiative jointly organized by COPELABS and by COWORK Lisboa, having as main goal to ignite augmented reality development based on low-cost and user-friendly technology. ArdWorks events are targetted at students, geeks, teachers, and curious people keen on experimenting and devising immersive technology solutions. |

2. COPELABS Looks for A Full-time Researcher
COPELABS/ULHT is looking for one full-time researcher to integrate the Experimental Facilities and Innovation team (EFFI), one year. The position requires a candidate with at least an MSc and background on networking (signaling, OSI Layers 3 and above) and also on Information Systems. The position is related to an international project focused on reliable and robust communication in mobile systems, when applied to transportation environments.
