1. HIGHLIGHT - COPELABS's Long-Term Facilities

COPELABS is expected to move to its long-term facilities early in the first semester of 2011/2012. These new facilities comprise circa 200 m2, first floor of the new University Lusófona building U. The COPELABS space contemplates not only the full COPELABS team in a total of 20 researchers, 14.45 Full-Time Equivalent personnel, but also adequate logistics for temporary visitors as well as for MSc and PhD students; specific location for testbeds; a show-room as well as meetings rooms; a social area which is shared with the R&D unit CICANT; IT and communications rooms.

The long-term facility planning has started in September 2010 and has been devised taking into consideration a growth of up to 25 FTE in 5 years. Check out the lastest photos in our gallery!

2. COPELABS in EFIA's 3rd Usage Area Workshop

On June 28th and 29th 2011 the EX-FI and the CONCORD projects, together with the European Future Internet Alliance (EFIA) consultation group and with the European Commission support organized the "3rd Usage Areas Workshop". the workshop had as main goal to ignite discussion concerning services and facilities being provided in the context of Future Internet (FI) and in particular of the Future Internet Public-Private Partnerships (FI-PPP).

COPELABS participated in the event with a presentation provided by Rute Sofia and entitled: "Social Sustainability Enabler: a Usage Scenario for E-inclusion". The presentation, developed by Rute Sofia/Paulo Mendes (COPELABS, University Lusófona) together with Graça Carvalho (CISCO), aimed at highlighting about the relevance of the user role as key stakeholder in a Future Internet architecture.

3. ArdWorks Goes to Tallinn

Within the context of ArdWorks - Hands-on Arduino Workshops -, Bruno Batista (IAN) has been in Tallinn University in the context of its 2011 Summer School, to provide a one-day workshop related to small toys based on smart interfacing with Arduino technology. Such workshop has been based on a kit developed by Bruno Batista (IAN) together with Adriano Couto (EFFI) and was held together with the University of Tallinn Summer School (courtesy of David Lamas, Univ. Tallinn/COPELABS, Universidade Lusófona)

ArdWorks is an initiative jointly organized by COPELABS and COWORK Lisboa. ArdWorks has as main goal to ignite augmented reality development based on low-cost and user-friendly technology. ArdWorks events are targetted at students, geeks, teachers, or simply people with basic programming skills willing to learn a little more about immersive technologies.

2. One Open Position until 30.07.2011

COPELABS has one open position for a PhD student or Postdoc researcher. The full list of open positions is accessible through the COPELABS site.

The researcher position comprises work within the context of the DAIM R&D team, as well as lecturing in University Lusófona in fields such as graphic computation. To apply or for additional enquiries please provide your CV in pdf ideally together with a few recommendation letters (pdf) by mail to siti dash cd at uitc dot ulusofona dot pt, until July 30th 2011.
