1. HIGHLIGHT - COPELABS Attends TNC 2011

Within the context of the User-centric Mobility Management (UMM) project COPELABS partiicipated in the 2011 Terena Networking Conference (TNC 2011) which took place in Prague, Czech Republic, 16-19th May 2011. Andrea G. Nascimento (IAN researcher) attended the event and presented a poster which provided a global project overview.

TNC 2011 is the larged European conference comprising over 500 participants including decision makers, networking specialists, as well as managers from all major European networking and research organizations, universities, as well as industry representatives.

UMM is a Portuguese project financed by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT), project reference number PTDC/EEA-TEL/205709/2008, starting date of 01.04.2010 and with a 3-year lifespan. The project is focused on user-centric mobility management tailored to spontaneous wireless environments, i.e., environments that self-adjust to topology changes. Global mobility management is addressed both from a user and a network perspective with the purpose to ensure transparent access to Internet services.

2. COPELABS Participates in MAPSHOP 2011

Four COPELABS PhD students enrolled in the MAP-TELE doctoral programme presented their work during the annual MAP-TELE student workshop, MAPSHOP. MAPSHOP 2011 took place in Universidade de Aveiro on May 10th 2011.

Namusale Chama (mobility metrics for shortest-path routing), Andrea Ribeiro (social mobility modelling), Waldir Moreira Junior (opportunistic routing), and Tauseef Jamal (cooperative relaying) have been developing their research within the context of IAN since 2008 and are PhD students from the 2008 and the 2009 MAP-TELE editions.

MAP-TELE is a joint venture of Universidade do Minho, Universidade de Aveiro and Universidade do Porto and focused on Telecommunications.

3. API Releases First National Magazine on Informatics Systems and Technologies

The national initative API - Approaches to Paradigms of a future Internet - has released the first number of the API Review magazine. Volume 1 includes all of the results achieved by API in 2010, contemplating the released white papers and teaser topics. API Review is edited by Edições Universitárias Lusófonas. API Review (ISSN 2182-1844) can be acquired online on paper (15 Euros) or on digital format (pdf, 5 Euros).

API is a Portuguese initiative that aims at strengthening and disseminating national work in the context of Internet architectures and networking. As a volunteer effort, API is an R&D Forum for igniting open debate, comprising entities from both national academia and industry.

2. Open Positions Until 15.06.2011

COPELABS has currently three Summer Internship positions and position for a PhD student or Postdoc researcher. The full list of open positions is accessible through the COPELABS site.

The Summer Internship positions involve working in projects of the three R&D teams of COPELABS (IAN, DAIM, EFFI) and are suited for candidates on an MSc or PhD level. Work comprises concept specification as well as programming (proof-of-concept validation) and is expected to last between 3 to 6 months, starting during July-September.

The researcher position comprises work within the context of the DAIM R&D team, as well as lecturing in University Lusófona in fields such as graphic computation.
